SONY ALPHA A9
OVERVIEW
Sony latest offering is its new, flagship camera the Alpha A9. The full frame, mirrorless
camera look like Sony is about to take on Canon and Nikon at their own game, in the
high end professional market.
SENSOR
The A9 has a brand new, 24.2 megapixel, full frame, stacked sensor. The stacked sensor
is going to allow data transfer at 20x faster than traditional sensors.
ISO RANGE
The native ISO range is from ISO 100-51,200
SHUTTER SPEED
Using its electronic shutter the A9 has a maximum shutter speed of 1/32000th of a
second, with a shooting rate of 20 frames per second.
AUTOFOCUS
Autofocus has taken another leap forward with the A9 having 693 AF points, all of
which can be individually selected. The Autofocus works continuously at 20 frames
per second as well.
VIEWFINDER & TOUCHSCREEN
The A9’s electronic viewfinder has 3.68 million dots giving it almost 4K quality.
It also has no blackout between shots so continuous subject tracking is possible.
The rear has a 3” tilting touchscreen.
CONNECTIVITY
For the first time on any Sony camera dual SD card slots have been added, with one
being the newer UHS-II type for faster data transfer.
FILE TYPES
Shooting both JPEG and RAW the A9’s shot buffer allows 241 RAW files to be recorded.
VIDEO
Video on the A9 is in 4K at 24, 25 and 30 frames per second. The 4K video uses the
full sensor size.
