SONY ALPHA A6500
OVERVIEW
The Sony A6500 is a mirrorless, APSC sensor size using Sony’s E-Mount lenses.
Released as the update to Sony’s A6300 the A6500 is very similar with only a few
minor adjustments. These are mainly bought in to address some of the issues with
the A6300 chiefly the overheating problem that many photographers found when filming
videos.
Sony has also improved the buffer rate over the A6300, allowing the A6500 to shoot
up to 300 J-pegs and 100 RAW files. The addition of an in built, 5 axis image stabilisation
will be welcomed by both stills and video shooters.
SENSOR
APS-C type sensor with 24.2 Megapixels
ISO RANGE
The A6500 has an ISO range of ISO 100-25,600 which can be expanded up to ISO 51,200.
SHUTTER SPEED
Maximum shutter speed is 1/4000th of a second with a frame rate of 11 frames per
second.
AUTOFOCUS
Autofocus has 425, phase detection AF points and autofocus points can now be altered
via the touchscreen.
VIEWFINDER & TOUCHSCREEN
Electronic, 1cm, viewfinder. The rear touch screen is titling and can be used for
menu functions and Autofocus point placement.
VIDEO
On the video side Sony has looked to address one of the major complaints in the A6300
which was overheating. The A6500 now has a ‘Long Record Mode’ that can be set to
help manage the temperature of the sensor. Video can be shot at 4K using the full
sensor with S-Gamut/S-Log profiles.
