PANASONIC LUMIX G9
OVERVIEW
The Lumix G9 is the new flagship, mirrorless, stills camera from Panasonic. With
the success of the GH5 with all of it’s video capabilities the G9 looks to do the
same for the still photography market. Panasonic has added a top LCD screen to the
G9 to display settings and information.
SENSOR
The Lumix G9 has a 20.3 megapixel, micro 4/3rds sensor. Panasonic has also included
5 axis, in body stabilastion.
ISO RANGE
The ISO range is ISO 200-25600
SHUTTER SPEED
Maximum shutter speed with the electronic shutter is 1/32000th of a second, with
a maximum burst rate of 60 frames per second. This however will only produce an 8
megapixel image, the G9 will shoot at a very respectable 20 frames per second at
the full 20 megapixel image size.
HIGH RESOLUTION MODE
Panasonic have added a high resolution mode that will combine multiple images to
create one 80 megapixel file.
AUTOFOCUS
Autofocus has an impressive 225 AF points, these are contrast detection and not phase
detection.
VIEWFINDER & TOUCHSCREEN
The Lumix G9 has a large electronic viewfinder that offers up to 0.83x magnification,
that will shoot with no blackout between shots. The rear LCD is a fully articulating
touchscreen as you would expect from Panasonic.
CONNECTIVITY
Panasonic have given the G9 dual SD card slots as well as mic input, a headphone
jack and a full size HDMI port. The Lumix G9 has built in WiFi and bluetooth connectivity.
FILE TYPES
The G9 will shoot J-Pegs, RAW and RAW+J-Pegs
VIDEO
As you would expect from a high end Panasonic camera the video options are many.
The G9 will shoot 4K video at up to 60 fps and 1080p at up to 180fps. There is also
a 6K Photo mode, which shoots two seconds of video and then allows individual frames
to be saved as 18 megapixel images.
