FUJIFILM X-T2

The Fujifilm X-T2 is the successor to the X-T1 mirrorless camera and sets out to address many of the issues noted in the previous model.

The retro styling of the X-T2 is a blend of classic rangefinders and early SLR film cameras.

With many of the functions handled by large dials on the top of the camera rather than via buttons and menu operation.

SENSOR & PROCESSOR

The APSC sensor is a 24MP X-Trans CMOS III compared the X-T1’s 16.3MP with no low-pass filter which results in sharper images straight from the camera.

The X-T2 uses Fuji’s X Processor from its X-Pro2 model giving a faster start up time and quicker autofocusing.

AUTOFOCUS

Talking of the autofocus the X-T2 offers 325 AF points of which 169 are phase detection. The AF points can be selected via a new joystick on the back of the camera body.

ISO RANGE

ISO range has also been improved now offering ISO 200-12,800, with an extension setting equivalent of ISO 51,200.

SHUTTER SPEED

Maximum shutter speed on the X-T2 is now 1/8000th which is extended up to 1/32,000 when using the electronic shutter.

Shooting at 8 frames per second with AF, this can be extended to 11 Frames per second with the addition of the booster grip. The X-T2 can also shoot at 14 frames per second in continuous shooting with the electronic shutter.

BODY

On the back of the camera is 3 inch tilting screen but it is neither, fully articulating or touch screen.

Being a mirrorless camera the X-T2 uses a 2.36M dot EVF.

The X-T2 has dual SD card slots both UHS-II compatible.

There are HDMI, USB3 ports plus microphone and headphone sockets on the body.

VIDEO

Video has also had an upgrade over the X-T1 with the X-T2 now offering 4K video. The addition of an F-Log, flat profile will give video shooters wider ranges when colour grading.

FLASH

Flash sync speed for the X-T2 is increased to 1/250th over the 1/180th on the XT-1. Fujifilm are launching the EF-X500 flash that will allow for remote TTL control and high speed sync shooting.

Prices for the Fujifilm X-T2 are in the UK around £1,200 for the body only ,$1,600 in the US.
